The Sharp Aquos LC32GP3UR: Specialized For Gaming, But Great At Everything Else, Too
All things considered, the Sharp Aquos LC32GP3UR 32 inch HDTV is a nice television with some stats, but the real story is the extra features. Sharp bills this as a TV made for gaming, and as with computers, anything made for gaming is going to be pretty darn good for anything else as well.
Not only is the contrast ratio for this television excellent at 10,000:1, but it also includes what Sharp calls Vyper Drive. The is a special mode, designed for gaming, that decreases lag between the television and a video game console. Although it may not make a readily perceptible difference, it may decrease reaction times when gaming since most console games require lightning fast reaction time from the eyes all the way to the fingers. Audio is provided by an unusually robust set of built in speakers, complete with a subwoofer. The remote even includes a special "game" button, specifically for switching to game inputs and activating the Vyper Drive. Inputs include three Simplay compliant HDMI and two HD component, in addition to all the standard inputs up to and including coaxial.
Other less interesting, but still important features include all three tuners (NSTC, QAM and ATSC) which will allow the television to tune in to modern over the air broadcasts without the need for a converter box of any kind. The TV operates in full 1080p resolution, which is the absolute best for any HDTV and will produce Blu-ray quality pictures. The outer shell of the television comes in three different colors: red, silver, and black, to ensure it will match any decor be it the living room, bedroom, or game room.
The Sharp Aquos LC32GP3UR is not cheap, but with so many specialized features, that's no surprise. For a list price of around $1500, larger televisions could certainly be had that would produce near, if not the same video quality. However, a 32 inch HDTV is simply huge when it comes to gaming, and in many game rooms or bedrooms, a bigger TV may not even fit. For a gamer, there may be no better choice.
